What is SENE doing to keep clients safe from Covid-19?

Summit Expeditions & Nomadic Experience is working to ensure the health and safety of all our clients, staff, guides, and crews. However, we acknowledge, and ask you to understand, that no measures can be 100% effective against disease transmission.

SENE has established the following procedures in our Tanzania office, Mbahe Farm Cottages, and for all our climbs, safaris, and other adventures for the duration of the global Covid-19 pandemic.

TRAINING
All SENE staff (safari guides, mountain crew, office staff, Mbahe Farm Cottages staff) have Covid-19 safety training, which includes the importance of 1.5 m social distance, proper use of face masks, regular hand washing, awareness of symptoms and instruction in TANAPA (Tanzania National Parks) Covid-19 safety procedures.

OFFICE
No client visits to the SENE office. Clients will receive their stored gear and valuables from a SENE office representative outside the office grounds.

MOUNTAIN

  • All guides and crew will have their temperature taken on the morning of the start of a climb. Those with body temperatures exceeding 37.5°C will be removed from the climb.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available for use by all clients, guides, and crew. Any crew handling client gear (for example, preparing tents) will use hand sanitizer prior to each occurrence.
  • Only the guides and a single server in the dining tent will have direct interaction with clients. Guides and server will wear a face mask when interacting with clients at camp, including during health checks.
  • We use private toilets, which will be disinfected twice daily.
  • A ‘Covid porter’ responsible for regularly circling camp to sanitize contact points (zips, taps, etc.).
  • Extra water will be collected to ensure enough for additional hand-washing.
  • Social distancing reminders will be reinforced daily among the crew.
  • At the post-climb celebration meal we will no longer have a group meal. Speeches and thank you’s will be at proper social distance.
  • The SENE tip procedure will continue as normal, as tips are given by clients to a single SENE office representative.

SAFARI

  • All guides (and crew if camping safari) will have their temperature taken on the morning of the start of a safari. Those with body temperatures exceeding 37.5°C will be removed from the climb.
  • All guides (and crew if camping safari) will wear a face mask at all times when with clients (except if eating with clients).
  • Hand sanitizer will be available in all vehicles.
  • Use only lodges and camps that have established Covid-19 prevention measures.
  • Guides will discourage stops for souvenirs and other local interactions. Any stops will be at the discretion of clients.
