Simba Farm is a working farm on 6,500 acres of rolling hills of wheat and barley. Located in West Kilimanjaro at 5,800 feet, nestled between the national forest at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro and the open Masaii plains of Mt Meru, there are breathtaking views from the farm house. The farm today is owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Bruinsma, producing mainly wheat and barley for the local beer companies. Built in 1931, the German farm house has hardly changed, maintaining its charm and warmth. Guests stay in the guest house, next to the Bruinsma’s family home amongst lush gardens and a panoramic view of Mt Meru. The guest house consists of six bedrooms and a grand living room with a fireplace. Enjoy freshly prepared meals all using food produced at the farm and afternoon tea in the gardens.
See a commercial farm in operation—milking the cows or feeding the pigs. Visit the vast vegetable gardens or run around the chicken coup amongst the foul, ducks, turkeys and chicken. Take a hike down to the gorge and if you’re lucky see some Colobus monkeys. Pack a picnic and enjoy the breathtaking African sunset from the other side of the farm.
Simba Farm is the perfect respite before a climb with its peaceful farm feel. It is also located just one hour from the trailhead of the Shira–Lemosho Route. Or enjoy a weekend of biking or running the farm roads or the trails into the forest and visit the local logging villages. The Bruinsma Family are sure to provide a unique and thoroughly enjoyable experience to your trip to Tanzania.
